Session 19 - Kinship, Temperature and Conversation

3/6/2022

At the coffee table there was a good conversation about kinship and five-year-old Heidi asked her mother; what is kinship Her mother replied, Kinship begins with your mother and with your father (mom and dad, mom and dad) and you have a brother and two sisters. We are a family. Mother and father also have a mother and a father and you call them grandmother (grandma) and grandfather (grandpa) and we were also a family, your father has two sisters who you call aunt and I have three brothers who you call uncle. They are also all married and have children, whom you call cousins for the boys and bases for the girls. For your parents, the children of the siblings are nieces for girls and nephews for boys. This developed into a long conversation with lots of humor and laughter. But now it was time to say goodbye. We stayed at the hotel and took the train to Frankfurt Airport the next morning.
Here in Germany in July/August, nature shows itself in its summery splendour, green meadows and colorful gardens, the deciduous trees in all their splendour, every now and then a little rain and temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius. That's how summer is here in the north hemisphere and when we arrive in Melbourne after 16300km flight we have crossed the equator and are now in the south in the southern hemisphere where the seasons are reversed. It is winter time in Melbourne and green landscape awaits us as well, but we need a sweater or a warm jacket because the temperature is between 0 and 10 degrees Celsius. Luckily in winter we don't have the heavy frost and high snowfall that Germans are familiar with in winter. We only know that in the high mountains of our Alps.
