Lesson 13 - 'Unsere Reise in Deutschland' and 'Directions'

Unsere Reise in Deutschland

Our trip in Germany

We are still in Germany and in the morning after arrival we find the car rental warehouse. There we get our ordered rental car (rental car). A small Volkswagen (Polo) is cheaper to rent than a Mercedes Benz. The service staff checks the car for any faults and if there are none, we certify this with a signature. We are shown how the car works and we are told that in Germany you drive on the right side of the road.

Now the journey begins. We drive first to Rüdesheim am Rhein. There we see many vineyards and in the town there are many shops where you can buy bottled wine. Riesling is the most famous wine on the Rhine. In Rüdesheim we pass houses that show a sign; Rooms available: We can stay there privately and it is often cheaper than a hotel. Breakfast is usually included

The next day we continue through the famous Rhine Valley from Rüdesheim to Koblenz. On this trip you will see dozens of castles and chapels and steep vineyards everywhere. This area has a long history. It was the Romans who brought the wine here. The Rhine was the border between Rome and Germania. If you come to this area at the end of September you can take part in a wine festival.

World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley Numerous myths and legends, e.g. of the Jungfrau Loreley, are entwined around the Rhine Valley and its castles and palaces. A boat trip is one of the highlights of a holiday on the Rhine, as is a visit to a wine festival. A river valley like out of a picture book - with rugged cliffs, steep vineyards, a castle on almost every high hilltop and picturesque places to the left and right of the bank. The special feature of the region also contributes to the fact that the 60-kilometre-long Rhine Valley between Bingen/Rüdesheim and Koblenz has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site
