Charlotte, North Carolina.

Charlotte, North Carolina. A lawyer bought a box of very rare and expensive cigars and then insured them against fire, among other things. The lawyer filed a lawsuit against the insurance company within a month after smoking his entire supply of these large cigars and not even making his first premium payment for the policy. In his allegation, the lawyer stated that the cigars were "lost in a series of small fires". The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal way. The lawyer sued and won.

When the judge announced the verdict, he agreed with the insurance company that the claim was frivolous. However, the judge stated that the lawyer had taken out an insurance policy from the company that guaranteed that the cigars were insurable and that he would insure them against fire without defining what was considered an unacceptable fire "and was required to pay Instead of enduring a lengthy and costly appeal, the insurance company accepted the verdict and paid the attorney $ 15,000 for losing the cigars lost in the "fires."

NOW FOR THE BEST PART… After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him arrested in 24 cases of arson!!! The lawyer was convicted of deliberately burning his insured property and sentenced to 24 months in prison and a $ 24,000 fine.

This is a true story and was the winner of first place in the recent Criminal Lawyers Award Contest.
