Exercises for Fun has commenced again after the Christmas break. It is so encouraging to know that so many of us want to get active and improve our fitness.

2018 was an exciting year getting to know all who attended the exercise group. We are all interested in trying to maintain our flexibility and our balance whilst keeping fit and enjoying each other’s company. I am looking forward to seeing you all back again in the New Year. Our Monday classes commence on 4th February. See you then! Have fun! Helen Jeffree. Exercises for Fun have had a very successful year. Held each Monday morning, it is a terrific way to start a busy week. The group has maintained its attendance during the year and the members who attend enjoy the variety of exercises during each class. At the end of each session the cool down period of relaxation is very popular and finish the morning session.
Our last session in 2018 was held at the end of November with an enjoyable morning tea which we all shared. We are looking forward to 2019 when classes commence again. We get our bodies moving, and experience the benefits of exercise, improving our co-ordination and balance and general enjoyment of life. Many in our group have gone to warmer climates to escape Benalla’s cold winter, while the rest of us are persevering by continuing to keep ourselves moving, and our muscles working to keep warm, and also enjoying the benefits of exercise amidst good Company.

We are all familiarising ourselves with the routine and experiencing the benefits of the Morning exercise, and as each week concludes, we can notice the improvement to our fitness. We have now introduced a very important segment “Cooling down with Carolyn” which includes exercises that help us to relax as we finish our routine. Our friendly and fun environment finishes with a cuppa and a chat. It would be so helpful if everyone could remember to wear name tags, as many of us are new to each other. Have Fun!!! Exercising has hit the news headlines lately, claiming to cure all kind of ailments!
Our group of enthusiasts are becoming fitter and more mobile each week, as they enjoy the company of others, whilst exercising and marching. There is also a little boot-scooting’ thrown in too! All members are welcome to come along to “Exercise for Fun” with our group, then socialise after with a cuppa. Helen Jeffree Exercise for Fun has started off with an enthusiastic group of people, of varying fitness, enjoying exercising to old-time music. If you would like to join us at 9:30am each Monday you are welcome.
Helen Jeffree Having been a long term member of a similar program in Melbourne, Exercises for Fun convenor Helen Jeffree noticed there wasn’t an exercise class for older people which had a fun element in Benalla. The program Helen had experienced at the Emerald Evergreens had simple, graded exercises beginning with easier ones. Helen set about doing research locally, presented her ideas to the executive committee and received a positive response to introducing this new group in 2018. Exercises for Fun is a relaxed, easy and fun form of interval circuit training suited to older people keen to improve their agility and flexibility. There will be
‘The class style is relaxed, without pressure - the idea is to have a laugh and to keep moving', ‘There is no compulsion – people can sit down whenever needed .’ *There will be chairs at the side of the room if people need to take time out for a breather. About 'Exercises for Fun'Research shows that there are many benefits of exercising with a group. Exercises can reduce the risk of falls and can increase our mobility, while maintaining our strength. It can improve our mood too. Meeting TimesExercises for Fun is held weekly in the main hall at the Benalla Senior Citizens Community Centre on Monday mornings from 9.30 to 11 am.
