Sue Pendergast led our group of 8 from the Nillahcootie picnic ground, up Nillahcootie track, to the junction of Sandy Creek Track. The long winding track included a few taxing sections, but the surrounding tall timber, pretty wildflowers, huge granite boulders and green fern gullies more than compensated. Crossing Sandy Creek itself, via a little bridge, we were pleased to see that it was running. After the long morning’s walk, we were happy to reach our designated lunch spot, looking out over the backwater of the lake.
The return journey was a lot shorter, as we followed a track that led down to the highway, which we crossed to reach the lake itself. Following the water’s edge was a very pleasant change, giving us a chance to admire the scenery and the serenity.
Back at the picnic ground, thermoses were uncapped, and boxes of goodies unpacked. How welcome is afternoon tea after a long 10.5 km walk! Thank you Sue…we all enjoyed the day’s outing.
