Beechworth in autumn! With 18 walkers, we started from Lake Sambell, walking along Kars Street to reach the Gorge Road via a short walking track. This road gives magnificent views down on the township, and the plains to the North West. Walking rather than driving gives a new aspect to the enormous rocks along the way. We lunched alongside Spring Creek just below the bridge, before descending to view the Cascades.
Back on the Gorge road we continued toward the main road and another spectacular falls. Along the way some eagle eyed walkers noticed a car in the creek, at least 100 metres down a very steep slope and wondered if it had just arrived. We later learnt from Andi, who found a copy of The Border Mail, that the accident involved a car driven by a female, with a male passenger at midnight August 19, 2014. She had a blood alcohol level three times the limit, they were both uninjured and the car is still there!! We finished the walk along Spring Creek via the Chinese gardens. A very enjoyable day.
