Bev brought along cutlery items in an antique wooden box which consisted of a compartment with a lid and drawers. Louise brought just some of her large collection of knife rests. These are used in some countries where clean cutlery is not issued with every course, hence knife rests are required to keep cutlery off the tablecloth. Many of us had not seen or heard of them before so it was a learning experience and a lovely one at that with many different designs to see. Items from a dinner set and cutlery set given as wedding gifts in the 1960s were also brought along and many other beautiful items. More photos are available on our U3A website and will be included in our Collectors end of year slide show to be held on November 27. Our theme for this final meeting for 2017 will be ‘Christmas’.
Collectors will commence again in 2018 on the Monday 12 February at 10 am in the U3A room. This is the second Monday of the month. Hopefully this change in date will not inconvenience too many of our members.
