The theme was ‘Kitchenalia’ and a diverse range of goods was displayed. Carving knives, steels, an ice pick, even a walnut opener were shown as well as a chestnut roaster, canisters and much more.
The Willow hanging meat safe took us all back and we could remember our mothers mincing the left over roast by turning a handle of a mincer attached to the kitchen table.
Of particular interest was a copy of Mrs Beeton’s cookbook which included a personal message to a young Shirlie thanking her for being kind to a lady in church and May showed a tea towel which depicted the church she was married in.
At the end of the morning Bev showed us a slide show of the two previous years, and we all decided that we really are avid collectors.
Next month is the Labour Day holiday but it was decided to meet regardless. There is no set theme, bring whatever you fancy.
