The last class of the year included feasting on a delicious celebratory cake made by Freida, the taking of some photos, and the contribution of music selections in the second hour by class members. One of the glorious excerpts from St Mathew's Passion selected by Gough Whitlam to be played at his funeral listened to during class is included below. Bev | |
During the final months of the year we continued our exploration of the music composed in the early years of the 1900’s. In addition to the wonderful guitar concerts of Rodrigo (Spanish) we have heard darker music by Wiell (Germany) and a range of styles composed by the Russian (Dimitri Shostakovich) in classic, jazz, and movie soundtrack styles.
We resume in 2015 with music from a number of lesser-known composers of the 19th century, plus some of the well-loved classics. |
