After completing the reading of 'A Murder Has Been Arranged' at our last meeting for the year in early December, we headed off to 'The Northo' for coffee, cake and conversation. A lovely way to unwind after a busy year and to take a breath before preparing for Christmas activities.
Keith Rogers will continue to be the convenor next year, with help in choosing plays from Heather, and also from our small subcommittee of Jenny Sawyer, Jenny McKenna and Shirley Swallow. Jenny McKenna has offered to take over the 'admin support role' in 2018 involving liaising with the Victorian Drama League re our chosen plays, ordering and returning plays, and collecting weekly contributions towards costs. Thank you so much Jenny for agreeing to do this! Beverley Lee The Play Reading group is meeting to celebrate our first year at 10.30 am on Wednesday December 8th at Rustick Café. It will be fun reminiscing about our 2016 playbill which included ‘Wives have their Uses’, ‘The Lady in the Van’, ‘Summer of the Seventeenth Doll’, ‘An Ideal Husband’, ’Winter Glory’ and ‘Dinkum Assorted’. Our ‘productions’ have involved a team effort – thanks so much to Keith Rodgers, Jenny Sawyer and Gwen Barnes for ‘directing’ our play readings, to Bev Lee for collecting the plays from the Victorian Drama League in Melbourne, to Judith for mailing them back, and of course to the talented cast of U3A thespians who read various roles with increasing levels of confidence during the year.
Our first playreading for 2017 will be ‘Twelve Angry Men’, directed by the inimitable Keith Rogers. Twelve Angry Men - by Reginald Rose 'New York. Summer, 1957 - A young delinquent is on trial for the murder of his aggressive father. The judge has directed the jury to find the boy guilty if there is no reasonable doubt. Eleven of the jurors declare there is no reasonable doubt, but one of them, while far from convinced of the boy's innocence, feels that some of the evidence against him has been ambiguous. By the end of that long, hot afternoon the juror has ingeniously reversed opinion.' (Synopsis from Victorian Drama League Catalogue) |

Thank you, JennyIn late 2022 Jenny McKenna stepped down from her convening roles in the Play Reading group after almost five years.
In February 2018 Jenny took over the co-convening 'admin support role' involving liaising with the Victorian Drama League to access our chosen plays. This involved ordering and returning plays, and collecting weekly contributions towards costs. Then, as Keith Rogers scaled down his role as convenor and 'creative director', Jenny stepped up to write newsletter reports, gradually taking on the role. Jenny continued in the role of convenor for over two years with the support of a small team in helping to choose the plays. Thank you so much for your passion for play reading and the energies you put into ensuring the ongoing presence of Play Reading in the U3A Program, Jenny. ResourcesCourse Information/
