The play starts with Ken Gorman and his wife, Chris Gorman, at the 10th anniversary party of Charlie Brock, the Deputy Mayor of New York, and his wife, Myra. Unfortunately, things are not going quite to plan. All the kitchen staff are gone, Myra is missing, and Charlie has shot himself in the head. Gradually other guests arrive and chaos ensues.
The play revolves around the four couples who are invited to the party. Myra and Charlie do not appear on stage during the play, although there are two lines from Myra off stage at the end of the play. Chris and Ken, as the first to arrive, try to keep the problems from the remaining guests, but gradually everyone gets to know the story. This creates the chaos as different people appear and disappear. Finally police appear to investigate a car crash and end up asking about reported gun shots.
We had a great time reading this play. Laughs were plentiful. With only a small group attending we were still able to share the parts and create a picture of the action.
Our play for next month will be An Inspector Calls by J B Priestly.
