Five characters are trapped in a New York apartment during a strange breakdown of all power and communications. They speculate, but we never find out, just what has caused this silence. No news is getting through and no-one seems to know what is going on. During this 24 hour period they come to review their individual lives with more clarity. Is life more than watching football? Obsessively writing up diaries? Being trapped in Einstein’s theories or wondering if capitalism has crushed the individual?
A short and pithy book about America in the 1990s but with some relevance to the way many of us felt during the recent lockdowns.
