Twelve people attended our first activity for 2022, on Thursday 10 March. On a lovely autumn morning we drove along Upper Ryans Creek Rd, and parked at the closed entrance to Loombah Reservoir. Most of the group had not visited this area.
We birded along the walking tracks down the hill from the parking area, in a tall forest of Victorian Blue Gum and Narrow-leafed Peppermint, with a mixed wattle understorey. We had great views of 3 Eastern Yellow Robins chasing one another, a flock of Red-browed Finches, several Grey Fantails, Brown Thornbills, Superb Fairywrens, and King Parrots and Crimson Rosellas.
Later in the walk we found a few Yellow-tufted Honeyeaters and White-naped Honeyeaters.
It was interesting to look up at the dam wall, and watch Ryans Creek flowing below us in a deep and narrow gorge. We also saw the pipeline that carries drinking water to Benalla.
