Our ‘fifth Thursday’ all day workshop provided the opportunity to share stories about the earthquake, community news, anxieties about almost constant exposure to scams, and more, all while meditatively piecing together patchwork pieces, embroidering, or knitting, at times with the hum of sewing machines in the background.
The Patchwork group met twice in September, with 'show and tell' and the installation of the beautiful wall hanging featuring quilted fishes at our 'third Thursday' afternoon session. The Patchwork group managed to meet three times during July, despite the Covid lockdown. The group who attended the all day workshop are pictured above enjoying one another’s company while socially distanced, chatting while worked on projects including hand sown patchwork hexagons and embroidered panels for a patchworked quilt.
I know a lot of you have been missing our classes, so we are lucky to have three sessions in July, 1st & 15th afternoon 1 -4 pm and 29th all day 9:30am - 4pm.
Dorothy Webber We welcomed back Rosie after her stint in Hospital – it is great she is on the road to recovery. The work we see for SHOW in TELL is truly beautiful and many photos are on our page on the website. The next all day session will be Thursday July 29th, from 9:30am to 4pm. We have had a large number of books and magazines donated by Kay. Hopefully, you will have time next meeting to see if your next project jumps out at you. Dorothy 0412263071 Photos: Dorothy Webber
It has been a busy month for the Patchwork Group – two afternoon sessions followed by a ‘5th Thursday’ all day ‘special’. Here are some of the quilts brought along for ‘show and tell’ during the month. Patchwork is held on the 1st and 3rd Thursday each month commencing at 1pm till 4pm, with an all day session on the fifth Thursday. Thursday April 29th is our first all day session for the year. Held from 9:30 - 4pm, this is always a great chance to bring along your machine and really achieve or continue with your hand work. BYO lunch & morning or afternoon tea to share. There is always someone on hand to give a hand.
Dorothy Webber 0412 263 071 We are all looking forward to being together on Thursday 3rd March. I’m sure we have a lot of catching up to do. I’ve had a number of calls and emails and am looking forward to seeing you all with your show and tells.

Patchwork is scheduled to recommence in the U3A Meeting Room on Thursday 18 February from 1 to 4 pm provided the building/maintenance works have been completed. Dorothy Webber 0412 263 071 Thank you to patchworkers who submitted photos for the on-line exhibition of work completed during the Covid break. ‘The Covid Collection’ was launched online in the third week of November in lieu of the annual ‘Meet and Mingle’ exhibition of work at the Seniors Community Centre, and features the work of Maxine Costello, Elaine Cotton, Janet Gourley, Shirlie Gilmour, Helen Jeffree, Judy Merkel, Heather Sloan and Corrie Witlox.
It’s not too late to have work included in the exhibition! Just send photographs to Dorothy. When I was first married in our house with babies, I had an old desk of Laurie’s as my sewing (room). This over the years moved about the house, as I made most of the family’s clothing. At some time, after visiting a friend with a Horn Cabinet I have coveted one ever since. Well, late in my life I am now the very, very happy owner of my very, very own HORN. It was on Benalla Buy Swap & Sell, in the next street. So, it was meant to be. I can’t wait to set it up, but will have to wait till the move.
This year’s annual exhibition of quilts is unlikely to be held at the Senior’s Community Centre in mid-November because of continuing Covid-19 restrictions. However, all is not lost! This year we plan to hold an online patchwork exhibition on our website, with a launch date of Wednesday 18th November. Just continue working on your projects with an end of year exhibition in mind as you would normally do. Send photographs of your work through to me by Monday 16 November. If you need help with photographing your quilts and/or sending them in online or on USB, let me know and I’ll make contact with you to help out. Hopefully, having a date to work towards will help keep our spirits up and encourage us all to keep quilting! Dorothy Webber M 0412263071 [email protected] Having been in touch with many of you, thanks for your photos. Keep them coming! It’s good to be able to post the pictures on Facebook and collect them together for the slide show on this page.

Here are 'close ups' of just some of the work displayed, beginning with a Christmassy theme: Patch work group members have had a busy month completing work for November's Meet and Mingle display and quilts and wall hangings for community organisations. The group has donated eleven quilts to the Women's Refuge in Wangaratta and eleven wall hangings to Cooinda. Dorothy is captured here collecting the quilts and wall hangings from the Patchwork cupboard on her way to delivering them to the refuge and Cooinda.
