A reminder of May’s ‘fifth Thursday’ session – all day Thursday 30 May from 9:30am - 4pm We always see a great range of work on these days.
Dorothy Webber Hopefully I will be back to classes in April.
A reminder in May we have 5 Thursday’s so we’ll have our all day class on Thursday 30th 9:30 - 4pm Dorothy Webber We have decided to make wall hangings to donate to the new building at Cooinda as this years project. Heather Sloan is co-ordinating this and can let you know the size required. Geraldine, Lorraine and I are doing a Mystery block of the month with Vivienne Shepherd. If anyone is interested in joining us, let me know.
Happy sewing! Dorothy Webber From entering table runners in the Benalla Show in mid-October, to completing quilts for the annual display at November 21st's Meet and Mingle, to participating in a '5th Thursday' workshop with a focus on making a Christmas project, there's more!
On Thursday December 6th patchworkers will share a Christmas lunch and exchange 'hexie' gift bag projects, to be followed by a workshop with Vivienne Sheppard from 'Vivienne's Retreat' on Saturday 8th and/or Sunday 9th December. It has certainly been a busy time for Patchworkers! If you are interested in attending the workshop with Vivienne, please ring Dorothy on 5762 2116 or 0412263071. I hope you all are aware we will exchange an Hexie gift bag at our Christmas breakup lunch on Thursday 6th December - if you have been away, phone me 0412 263 071. We have received lots of lovely feedback on the wall hanging. The roll of wadding is now kept in the seniors building and is available for any charity quilts. Our annual display will be at Meet & Mingle on Wednesday November 21st. Dorothy Webber "Inspired by the Patchwork group, showcasing the creativity of patchworker Heather Sloane and featuring contributions from various patchworkers' 'stashes' of materials, our eyecatching new banner now graces and enlivens the U3A Meeting Room at the Benalla Senior Citizens Community Centre. It is a wonderful conversation starter. Thank you so much Heather for developing such wonderful concepts in fabric for each of our groups!"
A fabulous day last Thursday with Vivienne Sheppard from 'Vivienne's Retreat'. Her work and story were great to see and hear.
We have booked her to run a workshop in December Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th more details later (will have limited space). Dorothy Photographs - Dorothy Webber On August 16th more quilts were brought along to 'show and tell' at Patchwork, including Judith's beautifully constructed hexagon quilt and Heather's colourful bathing box quilt created to encourage recognition and reminiscence by older people living in nursing homes. Vivienne Sheppard will now be our guest on Thursday, 20 September.
Dorothy Webber On September 6th we will have a show and tell of all our table runners before they are entered in the Benalla Show. On that day we will also be having a guest speaker, Vivienne Shepherd, who will be showing a video and talking about the weekend quilting retreat that she runs.

Thursday, 30th August is our next all-day session. We will be starting on some items for Christmas. Our aim is to start early this year.
Dorothy Webber On 15th May, Margaret, Beth and I, with Tom as our chauffeur, delivered our quilts to Moira Kelly’s Personal Assistant, Marilyn, in Whittlesea. She was overwhelmed by the number and beautiful work in the quilts presented. Thank you to all who were able to contribute.
Dorothy Webber Thanks to the donations we received we now have 20+ quilts to take to Moira Kelly on May 15th. The table-runners are coming along nicely with some already completed.
Thursday, May 31st is our next all-day session, 9.30am to 4pm Dorothy Webber Janet Gourley has spoken to the Benalla Show Committee and they have added a Table Runner section. That gives us a good reason to get busy and produce some beautiful table runners to enter. Thanks Janet.
Dorothy We had a great start to the new year of stitching and continue to enjoy seeing what the others have achieved.

On Thursday 30 November, 9.30 am until 4 pm, we will be working on Christmas items. Bring sewing machines, Christmas fabrics, etc. Heather and Kaye have sourced some ideas from Mr. Google. If you want to know more about this, contact Heather or Kaye and they can e-mail you the requirements.
Heather: [email protected] and Kaye: [email protected]. We will be displaying a few quilts at the opening on Monday, 13th November and then our big display for our Meet ‘n’ Mingle on the 15th. As in other years drop your work into Heather or Dorothy. Thursday, 7th December will be our Christmas Lunch. Be there at 1pm with some food to share plus a small wrapped Christmas Decoration to exchange. Dorothy Webber My medical appointments have been keeping me away from our sessions but I hear a lovely birthday was celebrated at our last get-together.
Dorothy Webber I hear that the last Patchwork session that I was unable to attend went very well, with lots of stimulating conversation and stitching. With a few away heading for warmer weather our numbers are smaller as is normal for winter.
Dorothy Webber Our first patchwork day at our new home was an enjoyable day. Work continues on our yearly project and we did have cake. We are looking forward to many happy days stitching with our beautiful outlook from our new room. Dorothy Photographs: Dorothy Webber
Our last Patchwork day at the Hub was a happy, chatty affair but we forgot the cake. Work is progressing on our year’s challenge with some wonderfully different interpretations. We are all looking forward to our new room where we will meet on 6th July at 1pm.
Dorothy Webber I quote from a Thank You Card received from Meryl Baston of the Uniting Church in Benalla:
“Dear Dot, my jaw dropped with pleasure and excitement when I opened the bag of rugs Irene Erskine passed onto me from U3A, for the Refugees and Asylum Seekers. Please thank your ladies most sincerely for their generosity and effort.” It is nice to be appreciated for our contribution to the community. On July 6 we will have our first afternoon in our new meeting room at the Seniors, 1pm to 4pm Dorothy Webber Numbers attending are 15-18 so a lot of work is being done on our quilts. It is so good to see everyone’s interpretations of the same pattern. More photos can be seen on the web site.
