Opera evenings coming soon .......

31/8/2016

Come over to the dark side!

Murder and mayhem; lost love and death! Yes, Opera takes the dark themes and weaves beautiful music around the fanciful stories.

The activity will take place at the Convenor's home in Benalla on four weeknights. Opera is a
grand over-the-top art form and needs a sympathetic and comfortable environment for viewing enjoyment. We will view the performance on a large screen TV which allows for great sound as well as subtitles.

Join us to listen to four popular operas. You will recognise some of the music and get to see and hear some of the great performances on recent DVDs.

Week 1  Wednesday October 12: - Bizet’s Carmen with Jonas Kaufman (the new star) and Anna Antonacci.

Week 2  Wednesday October 26: - Verdi's Rigoletto with the master Pavarotti and Christine Eda-Pierre

Week 3 Wednesday November 9: - the Franco Zeffirelli version of Verdi's La Traviata with Domingo and Teresa Stratas

Week 4  Wednesday November 23: - a modern dress version of Mozart’s bubbly
Cosi fan Tutti starring Luca Pisaroni and Sally Mathews.

This program will be held in the evenings, starting at 7.00 pm.

Maximum participants 10.

Presenter: Meg Dillon

Opera - four wonderful seasons with Meg Dillon

'Opera - On the Dark Side' (2016)
'In the Mood for Opera' (which included 19th Century favourties) (2017)
'Exploring New Operas' (when most operas were based on twentieth century novels or events') (2018)
'A Night at the Opera - French Style', which explored some of the great nineteenth century French composers like Berlioz, Debussy, Ravel and Poulenc who were interested in opera as a musical form.  Lovely arias, tuneful music, great singers and performances. (2019)

Scroll through these pages to enjoy, and for those who attended, reminisce about, four courses offered by Meg Dillon, supported by Terry, at their home, DVDs of the best possible versions were  screened with subtitles in English.  Limited to 10 members, participants received a synopsis of the story in the week prior to screening.

Thank you so much, Meg!  What a truly wonderful program you  developed for our members!
