March report - 'Lifeball continues along it's merry way'

28/3/2018

Lifeball continues along its merry way, despite clashing with Monday’s exercise group, which has seen us lose two players, and we are sad about that.

Nevertheless we have gained another three players, which is some compensation.

On May 7th, we are having our annual Fun and Friendship Day at the Indoor Recreation Centre.  Because this is a game where running is NOT permitted, only walking, there are so many benefits from a good health point of view, but I think one of the most important benefits is from a social point of view.  Some of us find it difficult to meet others socially, but when we finish playing on Mondays, we sit around the table for a cuppa, and chat and laugh, as much as we do on the court, so it satisfies our need for exercise and our need for friendship.

Teams participating on the day will come from Deniliquin, Albury, Rutherglen, Myrtleford, Wangaratta, Eildon, Mansfield, and of course, us.

All our new players are so glad to be able to play with like-minded people, and they have been made very welcome.  We are always on the lookout for anyone else who would like to give us a try.

So come along any Monday morning to the Indoor Recreation Centre at 9.30am, and even have a go, to see what you think.

You don’t have to be mad, but it IS an asset!

Marg Merriman, Secretary,

'An early start to the year, such was the enthusiasm ...'

3/3/2018

Lifeball this year began midway through January, because all the players wanted to recommence our season early, such was the enthusiasm remaining from last year!!

We began with two more new players, and another new player joined just this week, so our weekly numbers are hovering between 15-18 players - a very satisfying increase on last year.  Two players regularly come from Mansfield, occasionally more, but the Mansfield girls are such a welcome addition, as they add to the jollity and laughter of each game.  We would like to call this wonderful game "LAUGHBALL", as this is how we spend the bulk of our time when playing - laughing!!

Our Fun and Friendship day this year will be on 16th April.  We decided March was still too hot in our hall to comfortably play for a day, so this year we decided to move to a later time.  We will be inviting Mansfield, Eildon, Rutherglen, Myrtleford, Albury, Wangaratta and Deniliquin to join us for a day of Lifeball, Fun, Food, and Friendship.  We cater for our guests for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, before teams return to their home clubs.

Despite the game being "non-competitive", it is usually very competitive, but can be difficult, as any physical contact between players is deemed a "barge", and the ball goes to the opposition.
The game is primarily very safe, and every aspect of the game is directed towards that end - safety.  That's why it's a walking game, no running, and no going backwards....it is too unsafe!
However, as the years have passed, the skill levels have increased, and some players have refined these levels brilliantly.

But, for us, the game is just great fun, as well as increasing our fitness, mobility and balance.
Come along any Monday morning at 9.30 (at least in the summer, we will revert to 10am when the weather cools significantly) to the Recreation Centre in Arundel St, and gauge for yourself how great is our game.  You will be made very welcome, as all our newcomers will attest!

    About Lifeball

Missing team sports?  Looking for a different way to keep fit?  Lifeball might be what you're looking for.  It's a game adapted from basketball which suits all ages and abilities, and is great for balance and coordination - no experience necessary!  We're a competitive group who get plenty of laughs rom playing, and always finish up with a cuppa and discussion of the finer points of the game.  New players are always welcome to drop in and see us in action. .

    Meeting times

    Every Monday
    10 am - 11.30 am
