German - Planning for Spring sessions finalized

31/7/2019

Most people intending to continue in the Spring were able to attend the planning session. We will continue to meet on Mondays 12 -1 fortnightly; on the second and fourth Mondays of the month. Dates are  therefore September 9 & 23, October 14 & 28, November 11 & 25.

We will meet at the library. Please note the change of venue.

Whereas Basic German was delivered in English, Intermediate level will be in German. U3A members who already have a good grasp of the fundamentals of German language or who are fluent in it and did not register at the beginning of the year, may now like to consider joining us. Please contact me if that is your case. The format will be informal.

Additionally, we fleshed out the content according to everyone‘s needs. Thanks to all for their input and intention to be involved in the conduct of the group.

June - 'Our last session produced moments of hilarity'

9/7/2019

Following a short period of revision, a range of printed material in German was available to read in our 12th lesson- books, magazines and newsprint. With the assistance of a dictionary (for our vocabulary is necessarily limited for such a short space of time), people were able to understand the content of the articles. I hope they were pleased. I know I was impressed. We even learnt some new words in the process.

Our last lesson produced moments of hilarity as we took on short role plays. Scenarios included haggling at the market place, buying theatre tickets and diarrhoea.

Although there are no lessons over winter, students have been given plenty of ideas as to how their German can be progressed by their own endeavour.

At the time of writing, half the surveys have already been returned. I would like to thank you for your considered responses. It is clear that there is sufficient interest, (dare I say enthusiasm?), for an advanced group to be run in the Spring. Those that are interested/curious are invited to come to a planning session on Monday, 15th July at 11.00am in the library.

    German - Home Page

Are you interested in learning or improving your German?

Perhaps your parents spoke German, you're married to a German speaker, or you enjoyed learning the language at school and want to build on that foundation.  Maybe you grew up in Germany, have children living there, or have an ear for the language.  Whatever your reason for wanting to learn, we invite you to join our German classes, where we'll help you improve your speaking, listening, and comprehension skills.

All levels are welcome!  During the first 30 minutes of each class, a special session for beginners and less confident learners, mentored by more advanced class members, will be held.
