At our last First Monday we were lucky to listen to a lecture by art conservation expert Robyn Sloggett. We do not often recognise that restoration and repair can have the excitement that avant-garde Art has. But, in this lecture, we were enlightened. Restoration and Repair are very important and can be extremely interesting. Victoria has a large collection of Indigenous artifacts, and these have to be maintained. For instance, did you know that Captain Cook collected a large amount of cloth from all over the Pacific on his travels. Cook was interested in most things, no matter how mundane. We were shown examples of both these collections, and both were of extreme interest.
