About 'Hot Topics' and 'The News - Fact or Fiction?'An adjunct to the Politics and Current Affairs course, 'Hot topics' and later‘The News - Fact or Fiction’ provided a structured round table forum for selected stories and issues which are hitting the headlines which affect our lives and the society in which we live.
'The News - Fact or Fiction' sessions included an analysis of the contents and letters pages of different media outlets to see how various issues have been reported by different organisations; discussion of one of these topics in more detail; and a pre-alerted topic to be explored. 'Hot Topics' The earlier 'Hot Topics' pilot course provided an outlet for members keen to discuss pressing problems of our times - the Uluru Statement, Climate Change, Tabloid Journalism, Euthanasia and more. Topics discussed were wide ranging, with a topic always set for a chaired discussion and the chance to prepare your thoughts for the next session.
Both sessions provided the opportunity "to get things ‘off your chest’." Hopefully 'Hot Topics' will move from a pilot stage to a regular course at some time in the future! Meeting TimesThird Tuesday of month 10 am to 12 noon
