Heritage Victoria had previously rejected an application to have Benalla's historic Migrant Camp, which housed more than 60,000 new arrivals to Australia between 1949 to 1967, on the Victorian Heritage Register (Benalla Ensign, July 22 2015). Sabine, who applied to Heritage Victoria 18 months earler for an assessment of the remaining migrant camp huts, was not contacted or consulted; that the assessors did not look inside the migrant huts containing the photographic exhibition and historic memorabilia. Widely supported appeal processes were followed. Eight months later, finally news of positive results.
