"This month, the U3A Wine Appreciation group visited a little-known Winery, Willem Kurt Wines in the Beechworth Region. At 600m above sea level, this small family-run boutique winery produces award winning cool climate wines. Accompanied by the proverbial friendly winery dog, we all squeezed into the small Cellar Door for tastings of Chardonnay, Vermentino, Syrah and Rose, introduced by our host, Owner/Winemaker Daniel Balzer. The extensive views from the Terrace stretched as far as Mt.Buller (on a clear day!). It was only a short return drive to Beechworth, for lunch at the historic Nicholas Hotel. Seated in the plush Dining Room, surrounded by hundreds of historic black & white photographs of Bechworth, we were able to socialise over delicious food and drink.
