Playreading - from news of a course idea to reality! After hearing about a popular play reading group at DeniliquinU3A, the possibility of a similar group was raised, researched and a program plan developed. The Play Reading group commenced in 2016, with Keith Rogers inaugural convenor. Bird Watching, convened by U3A 'birdie', Kathy Costello, and Collectors, convened by enthusiastic depression glass collector Judith Borthwick, also commenced in 2016. Like Playreading, these courses were very well received. 'Opera' (Meg Dillon) also commenced a long run in 2016 following Meg and Terry enjoying a similar program in Castlemaine. Meg chooses wonderful titles, for example, 'A Night at the Opera - French Style'... Meg's Opera and History courses are usually semester length, as was John Barry's course about World War I, 'Over There'. Short courses of two to four sessions also feature from time to time, including John Barry's 'Legal Matters' course and 'Facebook for Mentors'. Single session courses on 'Advanced Care Planning' and 'End of Life Care and Decision Making' have been popular. |
Ongoing courses 'Exercises for Fun', 'Recorder Group', 'Stock and Land', were first offered as new courses in 2018, with German, Saturday Games - 500, Meditation and Coin Collectors appearing during 2019.
Courses which commenced during the pandemic included 'A Taste of Art', 'A Different View of German History', 'Demystifying Psychology', and a rebadged version of 'Hot Topics', 'The News - Fact or Fiction?' It was quite a struggle at times to keep these courses going at times! Beginners courses are added to the program from time to time - for example, 'Patchwork for Beginners'; German for Beginners, Family Research--Beginners. Other courses have a different themes each year, for example in 2021 the theme was 'The Tudors'. The history curriculum also has semester length offerings, such as Meg's 'History: An Introduction to Western Civilisation'.. Our 'Tech Savvy' courses continue to evolve to meet the digital literacy needs of members. Benalla U3A has been involved with the Australian Government's 'Be Connected' program since its inception, celebrating this during Get On Line week for the past few years. 'Be Connected' will continue to be offered in 2022 as a separate course and as a resource for Tech Savvy Beginners (Android) and Tech Savvy Beginners (Apple). . |
2022 The 2022 Course Program is similar to the 'pre pandemic' program, however there are a few more new courses than in 2021. There has also been some interest over time in 'Poet's Corner', ‘Auslan’, 'Revise Your Shorthand' and 'Line Dancing'. Perhaps you’ve heard or thought of others.
