Next short walk - Beechworth in Autumn

Both walks in May will be in Beechworth to enjoy the autumn leaves

The short walk on Wednesday 6th May will entail a circuit from what remains of Lake Sambell, round the town, and back through the Chinese gardens. We will leave Benalla at 9.30am from the Centre car park. Vaughan Cowan 5762 1980.

Seniors conquer Mt Samaria 953 metre rocky summit on April Fool’s Day!

The Samaria ranges has an interesting record. This slender plateau provided a source of food for the local Aborigines. In the 1840s much of the area was under grazing. With stands of magnificent mature trees, by the 1920s a large scale timber industry was in operation. In 1979 about 7000 hectares were declared a State Park. Today, Mt Samaria State Park eucalyptus forest offers many walking tracks, scenic views and a glimpse of history. Welcome to Lynn & Freya and thank you to our leader, Vaughan Cowan.

About Easy Bushwalking

This is a group for those who have enjoyed 'Serious Bushwalking' in the past who now need to moderate their walks, but any member of U3A is welcome to join.

It is a very social group for anyone interested in exploring the amazing tracks, trails and lookouts within an easy to medium drive from Benalla.

Even though the occasional weather glitch has challenged us over the past few years, the group has enjoyed many memorable times exploring our local area.

Meeting on the first Wednesday of each month, the walks are limited to 8kms, generally on well-defined tracks, occasionally with a short easy climb.

The day's outing can include sites of historical or botanical interest and occasionally even a Winery!

Even though the walks are labelled Easy Walks, it is important that participants be able to walk at a reasonable pace and be able to keep up with the group. Sturdy shoes are essential! You will also need to carry a small daypack with lunch, drinks, hat, wet weather gear, etc as needed.

Ride sharing is usually available at a small cost: $5 or $10.

Meeting times

1st Wednesday of the month from March.

The meeting place is the car park behind the Benalla Seniors and Community Centre building in Fawckner Drive..

Meeting times vary, according to the distance driven, but usually between 8.30 am to depart at 9.15 am, depending on distances covered,
