"Full marks to Julie McNeill, for organising such an interesting and enjoyable July Easy Walk in the quaint village of Eldorado on July 5th. On a now rare fine day, 13 walkers completed a 5km circuit of the town's outskirts, past an intriguing mix of historic cottages from the Gold Mining era, and newer palatial homes, sign of the renaissance of Eldorado. Into Centennial Park, the track led us through bushland, eventually reaching the huge imposing Dredge, the surrounding signeage reminding us of its importance in the production of gold. Returning to the intriguingly named Gunhouse Park, we enjoyed lunch, with an option of buying take-away from Victoria's smallest Pub, the McEvoy Tavern, which also acts as bank/newsagency/ cafe/Post Office...the Community Hub obviously. After lunch, a short 3km return walk, following the Creek, led us to the twin Swing Bridges: the old one (no access!) and the new one, spanning the now flood-swollen Creek. Eldorado provided a plethora of photographic opportunities for us: several historic Churches, the local Primary School (now the Museum), former Police Station, cute cottages to rent, and a bonus on the way home, an imaginative roadside letter box at RMB 1164.
