March -  e-mails, Siri, selfies and more

30/3/2017

At the first March session we all emailed our internet friend Jenny Three. We also tried an alternative method to typing and dictated our message to Siri, who was a bit hard of hearing when lots of people were talking.  We then looked at using Google maps for walking, car and public transport directions for getting to places.  During our second session we reviewed using the internet by checking out the resources on the Tech Savvy Beginners page on the U3A website.  We then added more people to our contacts list; sent them emails, and checked out the camera features of our iPads and iPhones, particularly the front facing camera.  We had fun taking selfies before taking photos of the class.  Next we’ll move on to the two methods of attaching photos to emails.

Challenge/Extension

Something to think about:  Facebook.  Who is on Facebook already?   For this activity, you don't need to be on Facebook.  Let's check out our U3A Benalla and District pitlot Facebook site - just go to the little fb logo on the top RH corner above About Tech Savvy Beginners.  This is a 'Community' not a personal site - you can have a look at it as an outsider, but need to become a member if you want to see other people's posts; put up photos, like other people's posts etc.  If you are on Facebook, feel free to Like and Follow this page and put up comments!  If not - just go into it from time to time to get to know the format, check out what is happening at U3A.  It's a pilot site for Tech Savvy class practice purposes which contains occasional updates.
Challenge/Extension - Find out more about the way in which photos are organised in the ipad.
